Savior, Christ the King!

This is how I spent most of the day on Saturday and Sunday...playing harp in our Christmas presentation, "Savior, Christ the King". I had more fun than I've had in a long time making beautiful music with my church orchestra! What this doesn't show is the other harpist who played with me. (She was taking the picture.)

I tried to remember to look through the strings and be sure we were together. Most of the time we were, but there were a couple of funny moments (in retrospect)...waiting for a cue from the conductor with hands poised...missed my cue, but the other harpist played the line, so it must have looked like harp ventriloquism! A couple of times, we each had mis-counted and had a solo glissando...hopefully it sounded like it belonged, even though it didn't. But the harps definitely were heard this year...both of us had good microphones and the sound techs had us turned up "hot". I promise I could hear myself tuning before the concert out in the auditorium. It feels especially good to be waiting on a cue from the conductor and playing on his cue just like he's expecting!

My fingers are just barely sore today, which is amazing since I had no callouses before I went to rehearsal last Wednesday. After almost 18 years of playing harp (yikes!), my fingers recover and re-develop callouses pretty well.

I hope I can always play harp with an orchestra...it's so much fun making music with others!

Now that we've welcomed Christ the King in music, it's time to make my heart ready again for His coming! I hope you all have a blessed Christmas season!
